How does pricing work?

Alteration and repair projects have fixed prices that have been set by our community. To see our full pricing list, please click here. Made-to-measure projects have custom pricing. When a customer books a made-to-measure project with you, you can discuss all details of the project before you set the price.

How much does it cost to become a Maker?

Makers’ subscription costs just £5 per month and you can cancel at any time.

How does insurance work?

The Seam requires all Makers to be covered by an insurance policy that includes a reasonable amount of both Public Liability and Professional Indemnity cover for their work. If Makers don’t already have insurance in place don’t worry because The Seam have negotiated an exclusive partnership with Create Insurance where you can get access to comprehensive cover for just £10 per month.

What’s required to become a Maker?

Our community is made up of Makers with a diverse set of specialist skills and levels of working experience. If you’re confident with your Making abilities, have a strong customer rapport and would like to earn extra money from your skills then you’re a good fit!

Where does The Seam operate?

Currently The Seam operates in London and very soon will be expanding across the UK.

How do I get paid?

All payments are handled by our system. Customers pay for their project when they book it. We release the money to you 10 days after the collection date. This will be transferred directly to the bank account you provided upon signing-up.

How can I get more customers?

You can increase the number of customers you get by updating your profile with high quality photos of your work, adding an interesting bio and getting positive customer reviews.

What happens when a customer books a project with me?

You will receive an email notification to check your account on The Seam. Your message will include the details of the project, the customers address and the date which they would like to have the garment collected. You can then message directly with them to arrange the time.

Can I return items by post instead of drop-off?

Yes, so long as the item is guaranteed to be delivered by the date agreed with the customer. Recorded delivery must be used.

Can Customers send me items via post instead of collection?

Yes, if items don’t require an in-person fitting then this is possible. Recorded delivery must be used.

What is the process with pricing made-to-measure clothes?

Made-to-measure goods require a conversation between the Customer and the Maker before the price is determined. Once you have spoken with the Customer about the details of the project, you can then set the price for them to either accept or decline the project.

What happens if a job is going to cost more than the customer has paid?

The cost for alteration and repair projects is fixed. If a Customer changes the brief for a made-to-measure project then the Maker should update the new cost in the platform. Only after the Customer has accepted the new cost in the platform should you continue working on the project.

When is the payment processed?

Once you confirm in the platform that the project is complete, The Seam will then release payment. It should arrive in your bank account within 3-5 working days.

How do I collect reviews?

Once you’ve completed a project, your Customer will be asked to complete a review of the work. The more projects you complete the more reviews you can collect.
